Welcome back to our Summer School skincare series! If you've been following along, we’ve explored skin health tips for your 20s through 50s. Now, we’re diving into the essentials for your 60s: a time to deeply support your skin’s structure, restore hydration, and embrace rejuvenation.
Aging is a privilege and your skincare routine should celebrate that. By your 60s, your skin may be thinner, drier, and more prone to sensitivity, but with smart product choices and healthy habits, you can support your skin’s glow, resilience, and health all summer long.
Skin Changes in Your 60s
In this decade, collagen production has declined significantly. Skin may appear looser or sag more visibly, and wrinkles may deepen. Dryness often becomes a bigger issue due to slower oil production and a reduced moisture barrier. Sun damage from earlier decades may show up more clearly in the form of age spots, dullness, or rough texture.
While some of these changes are natural, the right products can enhance radiance, boost hydration, and restore vitality.
Summer Skincare Priorities for Your 60s
1. Intensify hydration: Dehydrated skin can emphasize lines and sagging. Look for deeply hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and vitamin E.
2. Focus on firming and strengthening: Peptides and retinoids help reinforce the skin’s structure and improve elasticity over time. They're ideal for targeting visible aging without being too harsh.
3. Even out skin tone: Hyperpigmentation, age spots, and uneven tone become more noticeable. Vitamin C and niacinamide work well to brighten and support skin clarity.
4. Gentle exfoliation:Exfoliating regularly (but gently) helps remove dull surface cells and allows hydrating serums and creams to penetrate better.
5. Shield from sun damage: SPF is non-negotiable, especially since mature skin is more vulnerable to UV-related issues. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen and apply it daily, even on cloudy days. (Stay tuned for exciting SPF news!)
